Overview
Sarah Joy White, PT, DPT, will discuss the role of pelvic physical therapy in the treatment of sexual dysfunction, how to identify patients who would benefit from referral to physical therapy, and how to ensure the best continuity of care. This presentation is appropriate for any provider who treats patients with sexual dysfunction, musculoskeletal dysfunction, or sexual trauma. This presentation is designed to provide nurse practitioners with knowledge regarding the role of pelvic physical therapy in sexual dysfunction, as well as best practices for which patients, and how, to refer to pelvic physical therapy. Emphasis will be placed on the focus, scope of practice, and methods of a pelvic physical therapist, as well as the collaboration between nurse practitioner and pelvic physical therapist.
Speakers
Sarah Joy White, PT, DPT is a doctor of physical therapy specializing in pelvic and obstetric physical therapy. She has studied at Washington State University and University of St. Augustine for Health Sciences. She has extensive training which allows her to work with patients of all genders and all ages on their pelvic musculoskeletal concerns. Over the course of her career, in addition to her orthopedic and manual therapy training, she has pursued training in bowel, bladder, reproductive, and sexual function, which allows her to provide holistic care for pelvic and obstetric concerns. She also volunteers with the American Physical Therapy Association’s Academy of Pelvic Health, and provides mentorship for students and physical therapists interested in pelvic health.
